ICONIC “AYISA BORLA” IN SANDEMA CLEARED BY BUILSA NORTH DISTRICT ASSEMBLY.

The Builsa North District Assembly in the Upper East Region and Zoomlion Ltd have begun clearing the iconic refuse dump also known as “Ayisa Borla” in the centre of the district capital Sandema to improve sanitary conditions in the area and its surroundings.

According to residents, the mountainous refuse dump has been in existence for more than 40 years and was once cleared by Rev James Agalic a former DCE under the erstwhile Kufour’s regime.

The residents say, the clearing of the refuse dump is very welcoming as they have been battling with mosquitoes and the stench emanating from the refuse dump makes life unbearable for them.

They say, they have on several occasions quarrelled with people who either come there to defecate or dump rubbish in the area but that did not stop people from defecating or dumping rubbish in the area.

Mr Jerry Akanaamwie and Madam Ali Veronica who both reside in the area wants the assembly after clearing the area, to either lease it out to a developer to put up stores or urinary and bath houses for market men and women who may want to wash down after traveling far distances to trade in the market as is being done in major cities.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Builsa North District Hon David Amoabil Afoko, in an interview said, the refuse dump poses as threat to sanitary and hygiene in the area and the District as a whole as it is located in the middle of the district capital and very close to the market therefore clearing it will improve sanitation and the waste management situation of the district.

The DCE said the suggestions of residents around the refuse dump are welcoming but said for the meantime, the Assembly wants to move the animal market from where they currently operate which is often flooded whenever it rains to the cleared site whiles waiting for anyone with the financial muscle who might want to put a business structure in the area.

He added that, a dilapidated toilet facility located on the refuse dump would be pulled down and the whole area levelled.

He said that the Assembly would move the refuse containers at “Ayisa borla” to a new site away from the market and others will also be put at vantage points in the District for waste collection, and warned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, warning that "Anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately, would be dealt with."

40 acres of land handed over for Cashew plantation in Builsa North.

20 acres of land in Sandema-Kori and another 20 acres at Chuchuliga-Naamonsa all in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region have been handed over for the cultivation of  Cashew under the Ghana Productivity Safety Net Project (GPSNP) initiated by the Builsa  North District Assembly with support from the World Bank and the Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development.

The Assembly has already engaged over 50 people in each of the two communities to be paid 12ghc a day to work as labourers on the Cashew plantations.

The 3-year project, which has provided jobs for over 200 workers so far and still counting in its first year of implementation, is targeted at reducing the impact of  climate change and increase the economic development of the people in the area.

In his address to symbolically plant a Cashew tree for commencement of the Cashew plantation project and also to hand over walentin boots to workers at plantation site in Chuchuliga- Naamonsa the District Chief Executive for Builsa North  Hon.David Amoabil Afoko outlined the significance of the programme as it is aimed at creating jobs and generating revenue. 

The revenue generated could be used for self-help community based projects in the area. Foreign Exchange earning has also been identified as another benefit of the programme for the country. The cashew plantation would, again, help reduce climate change in protecting the environment. It is premised on alleviating the underprivileged to higher ground in agri-business and provide livelihood empowerment.

He added that, the 20acre plantations both in Naamonsa and Kori will all be fenced and Mechanized boreholes provided for watering of the plants.

Mr Akeeda Roger the District Director of the National Board For Small Scale Industries whose outfit is spearheading the project commended the traditional authorities of the communities undertaking the project for donating free land. He urged the people to uphold, take advantage and commit themselves into the project for their own benefit. He also commended the field workers for their hard work and dedication.

Members  of the beneficiary communities while thanking the District Assembly and government for the initiative, underscored the benefits of Cashew cultivation and referred to it as a timely intervention as it would help saved money in their pockets while protecting the environment. 

The Ghana Productivity Safety Net project (GPSNP) currently works in three communities in the Builsa North District namely Sandema-Kori and Chuchuliga-Naamonsa where Cashew plantations are being setup and Kaadema-Kpipaluk where community members are being engaged in the construction of a dam to be used for dry season farming and a source of drinking water for animals in the area.

You have zero credibility, we can’t entrust Free SHS to you – Akufo-Addo Jabs Mahama

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has once again taken a swipe at the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama following the latter’s recent promises on the Free Senior High School policy.

President Akufo-Addo lambasted Mahama saying he has ‘zero’ credibility when it comes to implementation of policies hence cannot be trusted to sustain the ongoing free SHS programme.

“He [John Mahama] couldn’t even implement the NDC’s ‘so-called’ free progressive free education and for that matter, he cannot be trusted on the Free SHS policy. We have no reason to believe NDC’s presidential candidate newly proclaimed convention to Free TVET and Free SHS. For 8 years, he and his party were loud in their assertions that they did not believe in Free SHS and Free TVET. They did not like the idea, they rubbished it at every opportunity and they proclaimed that it will destroy Ghana’s educational system.”

“When they were in office, they had a hard time trying to run their even watered-down version of their so-called progressively Free education. The then-president Mahama said he will review it and now we hear him say, it has come to stay. Your Excellency, please try another one. Your credibility on this one is zero. Free SHS and Free TVET cannot be trusted in your hands,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo made these comments at the launch of the NPP’s 2020 manifesto in the Central Region on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

Mahama’s promise on Free SHS

Mr. Mahama during a visit to the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari II, on Saturday, August 2020, debunked claims that he will abolish the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme being implemented by the governing NPP if he comes to power.

“Free Senior High School education has come to stay. If anybody tells you that I, John Dramani Mahama, son of E.A Mahama will abolish Free SHS when I come, tell the person he is a bloody liar. What I am against is the poor implementation of the Free SHS which is creating great inconvenience for the parents, for the students and for the teachers and the point I have made is that we can make it better.”

“If this government had followed our plan of continuing with the 200 new Senior High Schools that we were building, we will not have the current situation that we have in our Free SHS plan,” said John Mahama.

Akanzerwaa Build Builsa Donates PPE’S to Institutions in the Two Builsa Districts.

ABBA TEAM DONATING TO ST.LUCAS HOSPITAL WIAGA. 

Akanzeriwaa Build Builsa Association” a non-profit, voluntary based local relief and development organization responsible for promoting sustainable livelihood and human dignity in Ghana have donated PPE’S to Some Senior High Schools and Health institutions in the Builsa North and South Districts of the Upper East Region.

The organization was established in January, 2015 by a group of young professionals to generate ideas and mobilize resources to support the development and progress of the Ghanaian society especially the Builsa community.

It also seeks to promote education, Health care, socio-economic development, accountable leadership, entrepreneurship and women empowerment to support the development agenda of Ghana.

Speaking on the sidelines of the donation exercise, president of the organisation Mad. Achula Abala said the donation exercise in the two Builsa Districts is the first of more donations in the near future.

She said with the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 Pandemic, the group deemed it necessary to support the various institutions in the District help fight the disease. 

The District Chief executive of Builsa South Hon. Daniel Kwame Gariba was excited that the group selected the Builsa South District as a beneficiary of the donation exercise.

He added that, the development of communities and Ghana is a shared responsibility hence government’s resolve to work with the private sector and nongovernmental organisations in order to bring the needed development to our various communities.

The group donated Veronica buckets, liquid soap, hand sanitizers, bleach and facemask mask to the Fumbisi Health Centre, St.Lucas Hospital in Waiga, the Sandema Hospital,Chuchuliga Health centre, Fumbisi Senior High Agric school, Wiaga Senior High school, Sandema Senior High School, Sandema Senior Secondary Technical School and the persons living with disabilities in the Builsa North and south Districts. 

Heads of the various institutions and organisations thanked the group for the donation and pledged to use the items for the intended purpose.

Visionary Buluk Donates to Disabled Girls in Builsa North.

 

Visionary Buluk a nongovernmental organisation has in collaboration with NILARA clothing of Navi Manufacturing based in Accra have donated brand new clothing to Disabled and children of persons living with disabilities in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region.

in handing over the items to the president of the PWDS in Builsa North Mr Francis Ana-ngouk said as a youth group who have the interests of the less privileged at heart, the donation of the clothing is a little token to help children living with disabilities and their caregivers as the amount that was intended to buy clothes for their Children or the disabled children will be channelled into another venture to help the family. 

She entreated the Builsa North PWDS Executives to gather data on all children with disabilities to help Visionary Buluk and other well meaning organisations who intend supporting the disabled children with data for easy planning and budgeting. 

Mr. Francis Ana-ngouk President of the PWDS in Builsa North in receiving the items thanked Visionary Buluk for the donation and promised to get the data of all disabled children in the District in order to assist in planning and budgeting

Builsa north district records its first confirmed covid-19 case.

The Builsa North District of the Upper East Region has recorded its first confirmed covid-19 case since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The District Chief Executive of Builsa North Hon David Amoabil Afoko confirming the news to Derrick Abakisi at his office on Friday 10th July 10, 2020 advised residents of the District to strictly adhere to safety protocols set aside by the Ghana Health Service aimed at preventing the disease.

The said client according to the DCE travelled from Manpongteng in the Ashanti Region and was seeking health care from a herbalist in Wiaga a Suberb of the District capital. She was suspected of having the disease where samples were taken by the District COVID-19 response team while at home and the results came out positive.

The client and all her relatives according to the DCE are currently being cared for at home and all her contacts being traced.

The DCE appealed to all residents to stay calm as the Ghana Health Service in the District are up to the task at ensuring the disease is contained.

On the wearing of Facemask, the DCE said the police will soon clamp down on persons who refuse to put on facemasks as it has now become a law for every citizen of Ghana to wear face mask when leaving their homes.

International women’s hope center a non-governmental organisation operating in the Upper East Region in the area of Youth Personal development, Sexual integrity, Social Skills and mentoring of young girls have donated 120 twenty baby items and liquid Soap as well as reusable facemask to expectant teenage mothers and three Health facilities in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region.

Madam Gladys Anayem the Director of International women’s hope center in handing over the items at separate functions in Chuchuliga, Sandema and Siniensi all in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region thanked Madam Gladys Adochim through whose initiative the organisation was setup and have been operating in the Upper East Regional Capital Bolgatanga for the past three years.

She Said the donation forms part of the organisation’s contribution to supporting teenage mothers and maternity wards that cater for these expectant mothers.

She praised the teenage expectant mothers for keeping their pregnancies and did not abort them as the international women’s hope center frowns on abortion and children are gift from God.

She encouraged the young teenagers to go back to school to continue their education or either learn a trade after they deliver.

Madam Comfort Awonalim Amoak the Builsa North District acting public Health Nurse who received the items on behalf of the District Director of the Ghana Health service thanked the organisation for coming to the aid of expectant teenage mothers and encouraged them not to let their pregnancies be an obstacle to their education and success in life, it should rather be a motivation to strive to achieve all that they intend to pursue or achieve in life.

One of the beneficiaries Madam Akoalimalie Akanfenab who could not hide her joy and words of encouragement from the Director of the international Women’s hope center, on behalf of  the expectant teenage mothers expressed gratitude to the organisation for the their words of encouragement and support saying “ you have really brought us hope with your words of encouragement at a time that even our own family members lost hope in us due to our mistake of getting pregnant at an early age, may God bless you to continue touching life’s and giving hope to girls who have found themselves in our shoes”.

The items donated include, baby outfits, diapers, detergents, baby powders, napkins, baby soap, baby foot wears, maternity dresses, Cloth among others which were distributed to all the expectant mothers the organisation also handed over nineteen(19) 4.5 litres of liquid soap,eighteen (18) 500ml liquid soap and eighteen(18) reusable facemask to Midwives at the various facilities visited.
