Builsa north district records its first confirmed covid-19 case.

The Builsa North District of the Upper East Region has recorded its first confirmed covid-19 case since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The District Chief Executive of Builsa North Hon David Amoabil Afoko confirming the news to Derrick Abakisi at his office on Friday 10th July 10, 2020 advised residents of the District to strictly adhere to safety protocols set aside by the Ghana Health Service aimed at preventing the disease.

The said client according to the DCE travelled from Manpongteng in the Ashanti Region and was seeking health care from a herbalist in Wiaga a Suberb of the District capital. She was suspected of having the disease where samples were taken by the District COVID-19 response team while at home and the results came out positive.

The client and all her relatives according to the DCE are currently being cared for at home and all her contacts being traced.

The DCE appealed to all residents to stay calm as the Ghana Health Service in the District are up to the task at ensuring the disease is contained.

On the wearing of Facemask, the DCE said the police will soon clamp down on persons who refuse to put on facemasks as it has now become a law for every citizen of Ghana to wear face mask when leaving their homes.

International women’s hope center a non-governmental organisation operating in the Upper East Region in the area of Youth Personal development, Sexual integrity, Social Skills and mentoring of young girls have donated 120 twenty baby items and liquid Soap as well as reusable facemask to expectant teenage mothers and three Health facilities in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region.

Madam Gladys Anayem the Director of International women’s hope center in handing over the items at separate functions in Chuchuliga, Sandema and Siniensi all in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region thanked Madam Gladys Adochim through whose initiative the organisation was setup and have been operating in the Upper East Regional Capital Bolgatanga for the past three years.

She Said the donation forms part of the organisation’s contribution to supporting teenage mothers and maternity wards that cater for these expectant mothers.

She praised the teenage expectant mothers for keeping their pregnancies and did not abort them as the international women’s hope center frowns on abortion and children are gift from God.

She encouraged the young teenagers to go back to school to continue their education or either learn a trade after they deliver.

Madam Comfort Awonalim Amoak the Builsa North District acting public Health Nurse who received the items on behalf of the District Director of the Ghana Health service thanked the organisation for coming to the aid of expectant teenage mothers and encouraged them not to let their pregnancies be an obstacle to their education and success in life, it should rather be a motivation to strive to achieve all that they intend to pursue or achieve in life.

One of the beneficiaries Madam Akoalimalie Akanfenab who could not hide her joy and words of encouragement from the Director of the international Women’s hope center, on behalf of  the expectant teenage mothers expressed gratitude to the organisation for the their words of encouragement and support saying “ you have really brought us hope with your words of encouragement at a time that even our own family members lost hope in us due to our mistake of getting pregnant at an early age, may God bless you to continue touching life’s and giving hope to girls who have found themselves in our shoes”.

The items donated include, baby outfits, diapers, detergents, baby powders, napkins, baby soap, baby foot wears, maternity dresses, Cloth among others which were distributed to all the expectant mothers the organisation also handed over nineteen(19) 4.5 litres of liquid soap,eighteen (18) 500ml liquid soap and eighteen(18) reusable facemask to Midwives at the various facilities visited.

President Akufo Addo goes into self isolation.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo is on a 14-day self-isolation after getting exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

This was contained in a statement dated July 4, 2020, and signed by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

“On the advice of doctors, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is from today, July 4, 2020, taking a fourteen (14) day precautionary self-isolation measure in compliance with COVID-19 protocols,” the statement added.

The statement noted that “the President has elected to do so after at least one person within his close circle tested positive for COVID-19 today.”

The statement said, although President Akufo-Addo has tested negative for the virus, he has still decided to self-isolate “out of the abundance of caution.”

The President will during this precautionary self-isolation period, be working from the Presidential
Villa at the Jubilee House, Accra,” the statement added.

A number of government appointees have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last few weeks.

A Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah who also tested positive for the virus resigned because he visited a voter registration centre, contrary to advice by his doctor to self-isolate.

SANDEMA HOSPITAL APPEALS FOR PPE'S TO HELP FIGHT COVID-19.

Sandema (U/E), July 3, GNA – The Sandema District Hospital in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region is appealing to individuals, philanthropists and organisations to support the facility with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), to protect health professionals in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Even though the District has not recorded any case of the virus, management of the facility deems it necessary to protect its staff, especially nurses and midwives who are critical front liners in the fight against the virus, by reducing Out-Patient attendance to curb any possible spread of the virus among staff.

Mr Prosper Asandem, the Health Service Administrator of the Hospital, made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency during a brief ceremony to present medical and non-medical consumables to the hospital by Mrs Agnes Asangalisa Chigabatia, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.

The hospital received its share of 100 pieces of disposable face masks, 200 pieces of examination gloves, ‘Veronica Buckets,’ two gallons of liquid soap, four rolls of tissue papers and 50 pieces of reusable face masks from part of the items which would also be shared among other health facilities, religious groups and schools across the District.

The Administrator acknowledged the support of government in the fight against the virus as the facility equally received some items from government, to support service delivery in the era of the pandemic.

He said some organisations and individuals have also donated PPE to the facility in the past months, “We continue to plead with generous members of the public and citizens to donate more to protect our staff and patients so that we do not record any case.”

He said, “Ever since the pandemic started, our people have been very helpful to us as a district hospital, a number of them visited us and gave us some protective items”.

Mr Asandem attributed the success of the District in the fight against the virus to hard work and vigilance of staff and other stakeholders in the area, saying, “Our partners are actually more serious than we think, by supporting us with the PPE that are necessary for us to protect ourselves.”

Mr Asandem expressed gratitude to the former MP for the support saying, “We are grateful to the former Member of Parliament for a gesture like this”.

Mrs Chigabatia, who is also a former Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, said the gesture was devoid of politics and only a demonstration of love to her people as a mother.

“When the people understand that it is pure love you have for them, then we can come back to the drawing table and talk politics.”

Former NPP General Secretary Sir John is Dead.

Information Reaching Noiyeng Radio has it that, Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, is dead. He is reported to have died in Accra after a short illness. Until his death, Sir John was the CEO of the Forestry Commission.

New Executives Being Sworn In

The Ghana Registered Nurses And Midwives Association in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region has on Friday 26th June,2020 swore in it’s newly elected executives to stir the affairs of the Association for the next four years. 

Mr. Francis Awuni, Deputy Upper East Regional Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association Speaking at the Swearing in of the new officers entreated them to ensure that all activities and programs of the Association are well communicated to Nurses and Midwives in the District in order to keep every nurse and midwife abreast with happenings of the Association and prevent rumour mongering and defects from the group.

Mr Awuni added that, the National President of the GRNMA Madam Perpetual Ofori and her executives are working assiduously to have most of the issues affecting Nurses and Midwives in Ghana addressed. 

He said, GRNMA have been engaging government on weekly basis to seek clearance and subsequently employment for graduate nurses who are currently languishing at home without employment. 

He added that, GRNMA has also been engaging government on the condition of service for all Nurses in the country and hence appealed to all Nurses to be dedicated to their duty of caring for the sick.

Madam Issifu Zenabu Zimi the newly elected chairperson of the group thanked the old executives for their hard work at ensuring that the concerns of Nurses in the District are well addressed and on behalf of the new Executives pledged to tap from the experience and knowledge of the old Executives to ensure that the concerns of Nurses and Midwives in the Builsa North District are well addressed.

CARE GHANA THROUGH NADMO SUPPORTS FLOOD VICTIMS IN BUILSA NORTH.

Care Ghana an NGO through the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Builsa North District has given financial disbursement support in the sum of Three Hundred Ghana Cedis (Ghc300) to Two Hundred (200) flood victims in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region.

The disbursement is the third in series of support Care Ghana through the National Disaster Management Organization has given to victims of the 2019 floods in the District.

The Support is to aid the Victims rebuild their collapse structures and to assist them go into farming or rearing for the upkeep of their families.

Mr Agoalikum Avaripo a beneficiary of the Care Ghana flood victims support program thanked Care Ghana and NADMO for the support scheme and entreated his colleague beneficiaries to use the funds for the intended purpose.

He added that, in February this year, Care Ghana through NADMO initiated the support scheme by donating Food items and other consumables to all the 200 victims, in March they again supported the flood victims with Ghc200 each and the current disbursement of Ghc300 each to all 200 flood victims.

The Builsa North District NADMO director Mr Bismark Atengbisa Abakisi thanked Care Ghana for their continuous support to flood victims in the Builsa North District.

He appealed to all the beneficiaries to use the money for its intended purpose adding that Care Ghana and NADMO will go on supervision to the homes of all beneficiaries of the support scheme to ascertain what the money has been used for.
