Vaccine hesitancy in Ghana remains a stumbling block to the country’s quest to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19.

It is against this backdrop that the Akanyoweh Foundation with support from CHAG,Ghana HIV& AIDS Network, Coalition of N G O of Tuberculosis, Coalition of N G Os in Health, the Ministry  of health,Ghana Health Service and partners are embarking on sensitisation in three communities of the Builsa North Municipality namely Chuchuliga, Kaadema and Siniensi to strengthen community engagement in response to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in the Municipality.

The Ghana Health service just ended its 6th round NID of Covid-19 vaccination on 24th January,2023.

With statistics drawn from the 5th round of the exercise which took place in December, 2022, it was revealed that, the acceptance rate of  Covid-19 vaccination in these three communities was low hence the community sensitisation.

Chief  Executive officer  of  the Akanyoweh Foundation Mr. Ebenezer Amongba Awine, addressing community members in Chuchuliga on 25th January,2023 at the Chuchuliga health centre to whip up community interest in Covid-19 vaccination, charged community members not to believe the numerous misconceptions and conspiracy theories about the covid vaccines but rather ensure that they are protected from the disease by getting themselves, their  families and friends vaccinated against the disease and to  obey the safety protocols  of the disease as people are getting infected day in day out with the disease.

Mr. Albert Atuga Ajapoak the Chuchuliga sub district leader of the Ghana Health service in his address revealed that the Municipal Health directorate currently have in stock vaccines such Johnson and Johnson, Moderna, Pfizer and AstraZeneca and encouraged residents especially children, pregnant women and the elderly to visit health facilities in the Municipality and get themselves vaccinated now that the NID is over.
He stressed that the vaccines are safe and free.
