BUILSA NORTH TO GET MILITARY BASE

THE GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE GHANA ARMY IS CONSIDERING THE SITING OF A MILITARY BASE IN  THE  BUILSA NORTH DISTRICT OF THE UPPER EAST REGION TO HELP IMPROVE THE SECURITY SITUATION IN AND AROUND THE UPPER EAST AND WEST REGIONS.

Interacting with women groups in Wiaga, a suburb of Sandema the District capital of the Builsa north district during the weekend, the NPP parliamentary candidate of the Builsa north constituency - Mr. Maurice James Abakisi said the government is putting in place a lot of measures to propel the development of the district and some of these measures include the upgrading of the district into a municipal status through executive assent and proposed establishment of a Military base in the district. This base will serve as a camp to the military and will enable them to patrol and ensure an improved security situation within the Upper East and Upper West regions. This will attract more investment, trade and businesses to the Builsa North district in particular and the two regions as a whole.

Public disclosure of the proposed military base in the district was first made by the DCE of the area, Hon. David Amoabil Afoko when he, together with Mr. Maurice James Abakisi interacted with some Zongo youth during the month of ramadan. The DCE in his submission added that, the base will definitely have residential apartments (barracks), operational ground, offices and other associated units in the long round.

Builsas who administratively occupy two districts (Builsa north and south) are mainly into crop farming, animal rearing, crafts, pottery, etc.

This will be an honor to Builsas considering their immense contribution towards the security of the nation dated back to the 19th century when historically, they fought and conquered a famous slave raider called Babatu and prevented him from entering the Buluk State.

It will be recalled that,a group of soldiers visited the district with a military helicopter to survey and inspect the proposed land allocated for the military base some couple of weeks ago.
